AUTHOR GUIDELINES.

Please review our article criteria and submission process before preparing your article for Sports Pharmacy Magazine.

Quality Writing

Articles should be free of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Submissions should be well structured, coherent, engaging, clear, and concise.

Sports Pharmacy Magazine is written for a multidisciplinary professional audience. Authors should maintain a tone that is approachable, inclusive, and easy to read.

  • Inclusive and Friendly: Write in a welcoming and accessible manner for readers across healthcare and sports performance disciplines.
  • Nuanced Coverage: Address complex or sensitive topics thoughtfully and incorporate diverse perspectives when appropriate.
  • Empathetic Language: Use respectful, judgment-free language and avoid reinforcing stigma, stereotypes, or prejudice.

Word Count

Sports Pharmacy Magazine articles should generally be 1,500–2,000 words.

Authors should avoid submitting articles that are substantially longer or shorter unless a different length has been approved by the editorial team.

Title & Subheadings

Articles should include an engaging title and descriptive subheadings that help organize the content. Authors are encouraged to review previously published issues for examples of magazine style and structure.

Figures & Tables

Any accompanying figures or tables should be included with the article submission. Please limit submissions to no more than two figures and/or tables.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted visual materials are original, appropriately attributed, or accompanied by any necessary permission for publication.

Trustworthiness & Integrity

Maintaining the trust of our readers is essential. Contributors are expected to uphold high ethical and professional standards throughout the preparation of their work.

Accuracy, Empathy & Inclusion

Articles should be well researched, credible, and scientifically responsible. Accuracy is essential, but strong magazine writing should also reflect empathy, appropriate context, and consideration for the diverse populations represented in sport.

Originality

All submitted content must be original. Authors are solely responsible for the originality and accuracy of their work. Plagiarized material will result in rejection of the submission and may affect eligibility for future publication.

All sources must be properly cited using AMA citation format.

Sourcing Guidelines

  • Primary Sources: Peer-reviewed research should be used whenever available to support scientific and clinical claims.
  • Secondary Sources: Appropriate secondary sources may include interviews with subject-matter experts, academic institutions, government agencies, professional organizations, and medical associations.
  • Additional Sources: Other credible sources may be used when they provide important context or perspective. These should be used selectively and appropriately referenced.
  • Transparent Citations: Include all sources under a References heading at the end of the article. Sources for figures, graphics, tables, and other reproduced materials must also be appropriately cited.
  • Citation Style: References should follow current AMA style.

Artificial Intelligence

Articles submitted to Sports Pharmacy Magazine should reflect the author's own expertise, perspective, and original work. Authors should not use generative AI tools to produce substantive article content in place of their own authorship. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, citations, and integrity of all submitted material.

02 Article Submission Process +

Articles are selected through a multidisciplinary editorial review process designed to ensure that each issue of Sports Pharmacy Magazine provides credible, relevant, engaging, and practical content for professionals supporting athlete health and performance.

Submission & Review

We welcome submissions from professionals across disciplines that support athlete health, wellness, safety, and performance. Submissions may cover a wide range of relevant subjects, although priority is generally given to articles related to the focus topic of an upcoming magazine issue.

Editorial Screening

Each submission undergoes an initial editorial screening. The editorial team reviews basic requirements including article length, writing quality, completeness, originality, and adherence to the Sports Pharmacy Magazine Author Guidelines.

Articles that do not meet these minimum requirements may be declined before undergoing further editorial review.

Quality Assessment

The editorial team evaluates the writing style, clarity, organization, scientific credibility, practical value, and overall quality of the submission. Articles that demonstrate strong writing and align with the mission of Sports Pharmacy Magazine are more likely to be selected.

Relevance to the Issue Focus

Priority is given to articles that align with the central theme of an upcoming issue. However, exceptional submissions addressing other timely or important topics in sports pharmacy, athlete health, sports medicine, or human performance may also be considered.

Authors can review upcoming editorial themes on our Call for Articles page.

Expertise & Credibility

When an article requires specialized subject-matter expertise, the editorial team may consider the author's education, professional experience, training, certifications, research experience, and other relevant qualifications.

We also strongly encourage students, residents, fellows, and early-career professionals to contribute. Authors do not need to be established experts to submit high-quality work.

Editing & Revision

Selection of an article does not necessarily mean that the article will be published exactly as submitted. The editorial team may recommend revisions to improve clarity, organization, accuracy, readability, or alignment with magazine style.

Authors may be asked to collaborate with the editorial team during this process.

Final Selection

Final publication decisions consider the overall quality and relevance of each submission as well as the composition of the issue as a whole. Our goal is to create a balanced collection of articles that gives readers a useful, informative, and engaging perspective on each issue's focus topic.

Publication Schedule

Sports Pharmacy Magazine publishes a new issue every other month. Accepted articles are scheduled according to the magazine's editorial calendar and the needs of upcoming issues.

Final Proof

Accepted articles are edited and formatted for publication. Authors will receive a final proof for review before the magazine issue is released.
